This is Yannis Drossos Drossopoulos (my father); Born August 22, 1922 in Port of Piraeus, Athens, Greece. His parents were Dimitris Drossos Drossopoulos and Maria Stranga and he was the only child. My grandfather only had one brother whom I never knew. Maria had several siblings which have all died. However, her brother (Uthimious) married Anna Selavero who is still alive and well! I visited her and all my other relatives this past September (9-15-98 through 10-7-98 and again this year - 9-17-99 through 10-1-99 ). I will tell you about that unforgettable experience later. |

| Yannis married Martha Gabay and had two
children: John and me. We were born in San Salvador, Central America. We moved
to Greece in 1958 and lived in Athens for about three years... I remember, I went to
kindergarten, first grade. and started second grade when we left. I never saw nor
heard from my father or any of my relatives in Greece. They never new we left. I thought a lot about what happened over all these years and I even made a few week attempts at finding my father. Finally in December of 1997 I started to look for him again. This time I was going to do what ever it took. I asked many question, used the internet, and even planned a trip to Greece. I tried searching for the name Drossopoulos on the internet but could not find the right one. However, I found someone else named Drossopoulos who was a professor at a University in Greece, but he did not have an e-mail address. Therefore I e-mailed a Dr. Yannis Clonis that worked at the same University and explained what I was trying to do. He called all the Yannis Drossopoulos's listed in the telephone directory with to avail and so he contacted one of the major Television Stations in Athens named SKY Television. |
| About a week after, I received a telephone call from Helena Galari from SKY Television. It was a sweet voice. We communicated for several months. I sent more information about myself and she always called to assure me that they would find something. About six months later I received a telephone call (from Helena) telling me that SKY Television had aired the information on the "Light in the Tunnel - Games of Life" Show and that they had some information. I called and they gave me a telephone number that led me to Litza Politis -- my father's first cousin (daughter of Uthimious and Anna Stranga.) It was emotional for both of us. We talked for a while and she told me my father had died in London, England, in 1971. On September 15, 1998 I left Dulles Airport for Greece. I plan on going to Greece as often as I can because I have a good reason -- my family. |
